I’m S.Rachel Lovey & I performed at Woodstock with the critically acclaimed & EARTHLIGHT Theater troupe and during it's successful 2 year Off-Broadway run & national tour. We are proudly featured in the Directors Cut of the original Woodstock film yet litigiously lampooned in Ang Lee's 2009 delusional movie "Taking Woodstock."" EARTHLIGHT is primarily responsible for connecting the original Woodstock Festival with Max Yasgur's farm.

Earthlight's Brightest Light & WOODSTOCK'S Unrequited Revival

My Woodstock experience with the critically acclaimed theater troupe “Earthlight” is nothing short of the best adventure yet. After a winter in NYC performing in a mafia store front in little Italy we came to Bethel, converted a barn to a theatre and performed somewhat traditional and experimental theatre. Earthlight became the primary conduits that saved the venue-less & in jeopardy Woodstock festival by connecting Woodstock Venture’s staff with Max Yasgur’s farm. Then Earthlight brought in Swami Satchidanda; is seen with him on stage; and did street(ensemble theater) throughout the festival as seen in the Director's cut of the Woodstock documentary and rather recklessly re-created in Ang Lees 2009 "Taking Woodstock."

Cut to August 2019, Earthlight remains superhero hippies for their1969 humbling heroics, however inadvertently, but we couldn't save Woodstock twice, could we? flash-forward to this current hot summer, Michael Lang’s darkest cloud follows him around as his 2019 Woodstock Revival Fest is finally put to bed with no party and no performances but he marches right along to the beat of his own cool drummer - and the rest of us? We will ever get back to the garden? What are your thoughts?

Earthlight Exposed; A Brief Bio

Earthlight Theatre, was the only theatre troupe to perform at Woodstock. Leaving its Mafia store front workshop, they transformed a barn into a theatre in Whitelake, N.Y. The producer Allan Mann having heard the Woodstock Festival had lost its venue hooked up the powers that be to Max Yasgurs farm & with co-founder Jane Richardson brought Swami Satchidanande to the festival. With the money we were paid we bought a bus, did a year of nat'l touring and ended up off Broadway to rave reviews "Brilliant......magnificent simplicity." Hollywood Reporter. Rachel Lovey (blog author/original Earthlight member) is an acclaimed comic-actor-speaker, honored and roasted at The Friar's Club, Featured on FOX Television for her long running live show 'Women in Comedy Who Don't Have a Series Yet' at the Comedy Store, which was influential in the development of female comics such as Chelsea Handler and Retta. Also featured on a CBS Woodstock special celebrating Woodstock's 40th anniversary, Lovey has also opened for B.B. King, Big Bad Voodoo Daddies, and others. Widely associated with experimental comedy formats e.g. motivational humor and comedy traffic school.
